The Vet Tech’s Grease Monkey
Loryn Jobard is a vet tech who has lived one paycheck from trouble her whole life. She saw her mother turn down every offer of help and get through the hardest year of their lives on her own. So Loryn has a firm rule about anything that seems too good to be true.
Then her car starts pouring steam, and she pulls into the nearest garage and asks the new mechanic for help.
Only he isn't the new mechanic. Nate Kane is a hedge fund millionaire who came to Kentucky to disappear. The press had written his fund off as a collapse. He knew they were wrong, but nobody was listening, so he stopped trying to tell them. He fixed Loryn's car in borrowed coveralls, and when she mistook him for the hired help, he didn't correct her.
He knows better than to offer her money. Instead, the right things start happening. A plumber has a commercial job cancel on him. A painter has a batch mixed that the customer never picked up. A roofer happens to have surplus shingles on his truck. Every word they tell her is true.
Nate has never told her one lie. But he has never been fully honest with her either. By the time Loryn realizes all her small miracles trace back to the same phone number, she's in love with a man she doesn't really know.
For a woman who has fought for every single thing she has, being rescued without being asked might be the one thing she can't forgive.
